Peter Hoover is the son of prominent Mennonite minister Anson Hoover (1920-2008) and his wife Leah (Martin) Hoover (1895-1974)〔(''Hoover, Anson (1920-2008)'' at Global Anabaptist Mennonite Encyclopedia Online )〕 He was born in Kitchener, Ontario as the sixth and last child of his parents. He is married to Susan (Krahn) Hoover and had nine children with her.〔(''Peter Hoover'' at hecommonlife.com.au )〕 He has worked in Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, United States, Chile, and Australia. He previously was a sermon leader in the Elmendorf Christian Community, an independent Schmiedeleut colony of the Hutterites in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.〔(''Elmendorf Hutterite Colony (Mountain Lake, Minnesota, USA)'' at Global Anabaptist Mennonite Encyclopedia Online )〕 In 2006, Hoover was featured on the American television program, Dr. Phil, for his involvement in an effort to find and recover the children of an American mother whose father was concealing them in a Christian community in Belize. In 2010, Hoover was subject to a brain tumor. It was surgically removed in the Hobart Royal hospital on 14 July, taking away much of his ability to read and write. In his email newsletters, which were often rambling due his disease, he spoke of what he believed was his imminent death. This was to proved to be not the case as he has since regained most of his former abilities.
